Participate

Only 2 in 10 North Carolina lawyers currently volunteer to handle cases at no charge for Legal Aid of North Carolina. While many lawyers provide a great deal of services without charge, the goal of 4ALL is to increase the number of volunteer lawyers who represent the poor.

The NCBA will work with media outlets, including newspapers, television and radio, to provide this important community service. Want an easy way to remember the date of April 4th? It will be "4/4 4ALL."

To encourage and increase participation by members of the North Carolina legal community in the provision of legal services to the poor is the goal of "Participate."

Call Centers
Volunteers will staff eight call centers across North Carolina. The call centers are located in Asheville (WLOS), Charlotte (WBTV), Fayetteville (AIT, Inc.), Greensboro (The Volunteer Center), New Bern (WCTI), Raleigh (ACS, Inc), Wilmington (Williams Mullen), and Winston-Salem (BB&T). Volunteers will receive more information about call center assignments.

On Friday, April 4, 2008, North Carolinians can call 1-877-404-4149 to talk, by phone, to a North Carolina lawyer at no charge. This number will be available from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Since this is a statewide number, callers will be routed to the next available volunteer. For example, a volunteer in New Bern may receive a call from Charlotte. Lawyer-volunteers will answer general legal questions, provide information about the court system and direct callers to other resources.
